Yeong-tong;
the Core of Transportation,
Youth and Entertainment of Suwon.
By JI-YEON KIM JUNE 01. 2014
There are fifty five administrative districts in Suwon. It’s true that all the districts have their own valuable characters, but the city ‘Yeong-tong’ what I’m going to introduce today, has more noticeable characters in particular among those cities.
First, according to Yeong-tong ward office website, Yeong-tong is the youngest city not only in Suwon, in a whole cities in Korea. There are many evidences supporting this fact. Most of all, Yeong-tong has many elementary, middle, and high schools. This city also has Kyung-he university and A-jou university. Get effected by these schools, many entertainment building and educational language institutes or academies for students are well equipped everywhere in Yeong-tong. For instance, in terms of entertainment, there are Home-plus, Lotte Department Store, E-mart, Megabox, Golden Square; a huge outlet mall, Mac-donald's, Lotteria, and Starbucks. Not only these, also karaoke, bar, multi-room, coffee shops and many various restaurants are there. Even there is Youth center for students to enjoy their hobbies or interests through club activities.
Second, Yeong-tong is a satellite city which is located near a Suwon station only takes 20 minutes by bus from it. And also Suwon bus terminal is 10 minutes from Yeong-tong. Because of these conditions, in Yeong-tong, various transportations like bus, subway, and expressway are well developed and equipped for people to take it conveniently. Last winter, Bundang subway line was extended from Gi-heung to Mang-po and Yeong-tong station also installed beside Mang-po. Moreover, a construction of connecting between Suwon and Bundang lines are completed in last year November 30th just after finished the extension of Bundang line. Because of these two large constructions, residents in Yeong-tong could more easily go to Seoul and everywhere in Suwon. However, subways is not the only transportation to get there. Yeong-tong also has a lot of but routes and there’re even special intercity bus stops are located everywhere which left Yeong-tong and reach Myeong-dong, Sa-dang, Gang-nam, and Gang-byun. Those buses are called ‘M bus’. It helps Yeong-tong residents’ commute and move effectively.
Third, Yeong-tong is good to live in terms of welfare. Every building which is located near an apartment has hospitals. In addition, many public institutions can be found in Yeong-tong. A library for only Yeong-tong residents, a public health center, a National Election Commission, a tax office, a borough office, a fire station, Yeong-tong mail center and so on. Plus, Samsung electronics is located in Yeong-tong, so many various foreigners live in this city. This is also good to live for them because there is international school.
Yeong-tong is less complicated than Seoul, but it has almost everything to be well-off.
Visit Yeong-tong to see all of these mentioned things for yourselves!

True and false of prejudices against the Women university students
By JI-YEON KIM MAY 25. 2014
There are fifteen women universities in Korea. Different with other universities, women universities are consisted of only women. However, for this reason, there are many prejudices againtst the students of the women univerisities. Factually, according to a recent survey targeting women universities' students by newspaper of women, 36.8% of them chose 'Individualism is prevalent among them' as the most common prejudice that people think. The second most common prejudice which was chosen by them was that they are too interested in taking care of their looks(20.2%). Except these two, there are many various prejudices like 'They are indifferent to join club activities(8.8%)', 'Most of them will live in luxury(6.1%), and 'They go to women's universities to marry well(4.4%)'. Moreover, many people think that it must be not easy for them to have boyfriends.
So i went to Seoul women's university; one of the popular representative women universities to interview students in school and find out whether people's prejudices are true or not. I interviewed two students on campus randomly. One was just passing through a gate, and the other was selling second-handed items at flea market in school. I asked each of them a question. The question was 'If there're any false or 'REAL PREJUDICES' among people's stereotypes, can you tell us what is the truth?'
Both of them answered that some of it are true and some are not. First interviewee emphasized that it depends on each person's character and style regardless of gender. She also pointed that people shouldn't believe it because most prejudices are false. However, second interviewee admitted some prejudices as true but not all of it. Taken together two students' opinions, we should know exactly which is true or not, and reset our concept about the women's universities. Consult a video(3:08) below to know more information.

My story : Gomshin's life in Korea
By JI-YEON KIM MAY 11. 2014
All men in Korea have to go army. Going into army may unfamiliar with foreigner who is not Korean but it's normal in Korean's life. So for the most Korean, they already knew many things about military. However, what about his(the soldier) girlfriend who may left behind him? In Korea there're so many grilfriends who are waiting for his boyfriend in army. They are called as 'Gomshin'. In fact, i'm one of them and that's why i chose this topic to make an article and video. Most Gomshin try out various way to overcome the loneliness. Some Gomshin join a community like Gomshin cafe in the Internet and share their feelings, ideas, and useful information about army with one another so be comforted from friend who's in same situation with her. Others are just continuously looking at photos and videos of their couple to ease her sadness or write lots of letters to him. What's more, some Gomshin listen recorded voice of him or records of their telephone conversation over and over to relieve yearning.
Recently, there's an application appeared called 'Gomshin Talk'. On the right side of this article, it is a screenshot that take main of the application. It looks like a small Gomshin cafe in the Internet. As you see some categories in that photo, this application also has calculator that shows how many days are left until boyfriend discharged from the army. This is really popular in practice.
I know it'll sounds like weird, actually I asked my sister to interview me. I thought this way of making video will be fine and even creative in terms of deciding on interviewee. So I ordered her to ask me four questions in the interview. First question is 'can you introduce yourself?', second question is 'When is the hardest time while you're waiting for him?', third one is 'What makes you keep the relationship enduring such a tough thing?', and the last one is 'How long until he left the army?'. Then let's watch the video with supposition what will I answer to these four questions.
